Cheryl Sewell

Registered Psychologist

Registered Psychologist — Adolescent, Adult & Family Psychology

BSW, BSSc, Grad Dip. Psych (Hons), M Ed. (Wellbeing)

With more than 25 years’ experience, Cheryl brings a rare depth of practice to both adolescent and adult psychology — a combination that lets her support a young person, their parents, and the adults in their life, all under one roof.

Cheryl has spent her career working closely with schools, GPs and families, and is known for a therapy style that is warm, practical and genuinely collaborative. Clients leave sessions with something concrete to work on — not just a space to talk, but a plan to move forward with.

Areas of expertise

Adolescents & young adults Anxiety and worry · School refusal and school-related difficulties · Executive functioning and study skills · Depression and low mood · Emotional regulation · Self-esteem and perfectionism · Family conflict and transitions · Grief, loss and trauma

Approach

Cheryl tailors every course of treatment to the individual, drawing on Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, Acceptance & Commitment Therapy, Solution-Focused Therapy, Positive Psychology and strengths-based approaches. The goal is never just symptom relief — it’s building the skills and resilience that last well beyond the therapy room.

Safe & understood: People are far more likely to engage when they feel heard, respected and understood. I strive to create a space where clients feel safe to talk openly without fear of judgement.

Practical & supportive: I believe therapy should be practical as well as supportive. Together we work to understand what is happening, identify strengths, develop effective coping strategies and build lasting resilience.

Collaborative: Parents are an important part of the therapeutic process, and where appropriate, I work collaboratively with families and schools while maintaining a young person’s privacy and therapeutic trust.
